There are many myths surrounding contact lenses, some of which wrongly put people off buying them. Typically these myths grow from an unusual experience or misunderstanding of information. Many of these myths are also based on how contact lenses used to be, instead of the current design and technology of lenses. Any information regarding your eyes should be properly assessed as following up on faulty information can cause more problems such as long-term eye issues. To help you steer clear of these misconceptions, Lodge Optical Ltd has debunked some of the most widely believed myths about contact lenses.

Myth 1: I can’t wear contact lenses because my prescription is too high
There are contact lenses available in almost every prescription, including astigmatism. Soft Toric contact lenses are available in most astigmatism powers now in new materials. *Coopervision Biofinity XR Toric Coopervision Biofinity XR Toric Multifocal, and Baush&Lomb Ultra Toric, Baush&Lomb Ultra Toric Multifocals. If your prescription is out of range, we still have many options to choose from in the specialty contact lens portfolio.

Myth 2: I can’t wear contacts due to the shape of my eye
Depending on the unique shape of your eye, there are specialty soft contact lenses available and RGP contacts that are specifically designed for this! If it’s more complicated, there are still many options available before you shut the door on contacts. Look into brands like Synergeyes and Rose K RGP’s. As technology improves, there are more and more options available for hard-to-fit contact lens patients. Soon everyone will benefit from the comfort and convenience of using contact lenses.

Myth 3: Buying your contacts online can cause infections
Buying contact lenses online is perfectly safe as reputable retailers do not stock any products that would harm your eyes. Eye infections or complications are more likely to occur if you do not care for your eyes properly. Regardless of whether you buy your contact lenses online or from a high street shop, it is always important to visit an eye care professional regularly.
